Gaja Promis 2018 – WSET tasting note

Colour: The wine is clear, medium ruby.

Nose: The wine is clean with medium+ intensity of primary aromas – red fruit (ripe strawberries, ripe raspberries), black fruit (red plum), herbal (dried thyme); secondary aromas – oak (vanilla, cloves, dry wood), tertiary aromas of dry fruit (dried cranberries), earth.

Palate: The wine is dry, with high acidity, medium+ body, medium+ tannins, high alcohol, pronounced intensity of flavours – red fruit (ripe strawberries, ripe raspberries), black fruit (red plum), herbal (dried thyme); secondary aromas – oak (vanilla, cloves, dry wood), tertiary aromas of dry fruit (dried cranberries), earth, medium+ length.

Conclusion: Very good – this wine has a wide range of aromas and flavours, indicating high quality fruit used, together with French oak, and hints of ageing. The alcohol, even though high, does not dominate the wine. The fresh acidity complements the juicy primary fruit and provides the backbone to the wine. The only thing that keeps this wine from being outstanding is the finish that is one dimensional and not very long

Bottle ageing: Suitable for bottle ageing – this wine has a range of aromas and flavours that indicates potential for development and evolution. Together with the high acidity, medium+ tannins, and the finish, the wine can be aged for another 5-8 years.
